Promotion of coal gasification and clean coal technologies
India's National Coal Gasification Mission targets 100 MT of gasification capacity by 2030, with about 22.6 MTPA operational or under implementation. Government support includes two incentive schemes, long-term coal linkages, revenue-share rebates and special terms for underground coal gasification.
Thermal-power-plant coal imports fell from 62.5 MT in FY2024-25 to 45.4 MT in FY2025-26, a 27.4% decline. Measures cited include higher contracted domestic supply, Revised SHAKTI access, CoalSETU linkages and logistics expansion through rail, coastal shipping and inland waterways.
